Research works on the removal of mercury from water by zeolitic mineralshow that small quantities of this element are sorbed. In this work the mercury sorption from aqueous solutions in the presence and absence of Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) onto a Mexican zeolitic mineral unmodified and modified with cysteamine hydrochloride or cystamine dihydrochloride was investigated in acidic pH. The zeolitic minerals were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and FTIR. The sorption kinetics behavior and the retention isotherms for mercury were determined in the natural and treated zeolitic mineral samples. It was found that the amounts of sulfur on the modified zeolitic minerals were 0.375 (cysteamine hydrochloride) and 0.475 (cystamine dihydrochloride) mmol g-1, which were not saturated to their total capacities of adsorption for the maximum concentration used (0.310 mM). Under the experimental conditions, the retention of mercury was the highest for the zeolitic minerals treated with the organic compounds, with adsorption capacities ranging from 0.0107 to 0.0509 mmol Hg g-1.The retention was not affected by the presence of others heavy metals studied in this work as expected. 相似文献
Significant technological advantages in terms of sweetness synergy and hence cost-saving can be obtained if neohesperidin dihydrochalcone (NHDC) is used in sweetener blends with other intense or bulk sweeteners. The combination of NHDC with sodium saccharin or sodium cyclamate is an excellent method to improve the water solubility at room temperature of NHDC. In the case of NHDC-sodium saccharin, two different methods for blend preparation, a simple mixture and a cosolubilized mixture, can be used, with similar results obtained for solubility and solution stability properties. To improve temporally the water solubility of NHDC in combination with sodium cyclamate, it is absolutely necessary to prepare cosolubilized blends. 相似文献
The concentrations of arsenobetaine (AB), tetramethylarsonium ion (TMA(+)), and trimethylarsine oxide (TMAO) were determined in samples of sole, dory, hake, and sardine, raw and after being subjected to cooking processes--baking, frying, and grilling--at various temperatures. In all cases, the temperature attained inside the product during the cooking process was measured. The arsenic species extracted from the samples with methanol/water were separated by means of a column switching technique between a PRP-X100 column and a PRP-X200 column. AB was detected by hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry, whereas TMA(+) and TMAO were detected by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The results obtained showed that, in all of the types of seafood studied, TMA(+) appeared after cooking, possibly because heating facilitates decarboxylation of AB to TMA(+). 相似文献
The concentrations of major ions and spheroidal carbonaceous fly-ash particles (SCPs) in bulk deposition were determined in weekly samples from six European mountain lakes during 1997/98. SCPs are produced only from high temperature combustion of fossil-fuels and therefore provide an unambiguous indicator of atmospheric deposition from this source. Positive correlations were observed between SCPs and SO42?, NO3? and NH4+ at all sites except for some determinands at Jorisee (Switzerland) and Starolesnienske (Slovakia). Correlations between SCPs and SO42? + NO3? were always more positive than for SCPs with 'total acid ions' (SO42? + NO3? + NH4+). This is in agreement with the expectation that the contribution to NH4+ deposition made by fossil-fuels is negligible. Good positive correlations between SCPs and all acid anions were observed at Estany Redo (Pyrenees); lower but still positive correlations were observed for all acid ions with SCPs at Gossenköllesee (Austria), Lochnagar and Kårvatn (central Norway), whilst little trend in correlation was observed for Jorisee and Starolesnienske. It is suggested that this gradient reflects the influence of fossil-fuels on acid deposition in these areas. A high positive correlation was observed between SCP and Cl? at Gossenkollesee possibly as a result of HCl from coal combustion. 相似文献
A new European Union legislation on sludge treatment isbeing introduced that will replace the one currently in force. The control of heavy metals is an important aspect of this newlegislation. The most common methodology to examine the metalcontent of sludges is determination of total metal contentafter total or pseudo total digestion of the sludge samples.Nevertheless, this kind of analysis is not informative on theavailability or mobility of the metals; a metal speciationanalysis is therefore required. In this study, sludge samplesfrom conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment plants(WWTP) were collected at different stages of an anaerobicsludge treatment process. In these samples, the total metalcontent and the distribution of metal species were determined(Al, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Ti, Zn) followinga protocol of sequential extraction. Only 14% of the metalwas present in readily available forms in the treated sludges. In composted sludges, this value dropped to 6%. 相似文献
Changes in chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments of five olive (Olea europaea L.) varieties destined for milling were investigated at six consecutive ripening stages. There was a manifest dependence between olive variety, moment of picking, and chloroplast pigment composition of the fruits. Although the content of chlorophylls and carotenoids differed with fruit variety, ripening always involved their gradual loss, which becames more pronounced with increased presence of anthocyanin compounds. The relative rates of disappearance of chlorophylls and carotenoids were markedly different between varieties, implying that the catabolism of these pigments takes place at a relative rate inherent to each variety. The varieties less rich in pigments showed the most extreme behavior. The highest relative rate of disappearance was observed in fruits of the Blanqueta variety, and the lowest was observed in those of Arbequina. The chlorophyll a/chlorophyll b ratio remained practically constant during ripening, with a value very similar for Hojiblanca, Picual, Cornicabra, and Blanqueta, but much higher for Arbequina, implying that the structure of the photosynthetic apparatus is different in the latter variety. In the five varieties studied, lutein was the slowest carotenoid to be degraded, so that its percentage in the fruits increased with ripening, whereas beta-carotene was the fastest to disappear. In ripe fruits covered with anthocyanins, chloroplast pigments were retained in both skin and pulp, with the rate of disappearance being much higher in the latter. 相似文献
Functional properties of whey protein concentrates (WPC) are primarily dependent on the degree of denaturation of beta-lactoglobulin (beta-LG), the major globular whey protein. Irreversible modifications in the tertiary structure and association state of beta-LG after heat treatment were studied by partition in aqueous two-phase systems and fluorescence quenching. Partitioning of preheated beta-LG in two-phase systems containing 5% (w/w) poly(ethylene glycol) and 7% (w/w) dextran, between pH 6.0 and7.0, are appropriately related with the intensity of heat treatment. An increase in the partition coefficient of beta-LG was observed with increasing temperature of heat treatment. On the other hand, fluorescence quenching of beta-LG by acrylamide was used to study the conformational flexibility of the protein at pH values between 4. 0 and 9.0. The values of bimolecular quenching rate constant (k(q)) obtained showed that beta-LG appears to be more flexible at high pH values, while at low pH the protein assumes a more compact form. The efficiency of acrylamide quenching on preheated beta-LG was substantially more pronounced than for the untreated protein. This difference can be ascribed to the presence of unfolded monomers and aggregates of denatured molecules formed after heat treatment, whose tryptophanyl residues are more exposed to the solvent. In conclusion, the results suggest that partition studies in aqueous two-phase systems and fluorescence quenching are very useful tools to detect changes in conformation and aggregation of beta-LG induced by heat treatment. 相似文献
The application of sludge from wastewater in agriculture has increased in recent years, and it is therefore important to assess the effect that such treatment has on both the soil and the plant. The aim of the study described here was to ascertain whether there is a variation in the properties of the soil and to determine if this addition has an impact on the plant.
Materials and methods
The area of investigation was close to the municipality of Villarrubia de los Ojos (Ciudad Real). In this work, six samples were taken from the surface horizon in the studied plot at a depth of 35 cm. A further three samples were taken: (i) a surface horizon of a soil close to the area under investigation but without treatment (control sample), (ii) a sample of sludge from the wastewater treatment plant and (iii) a sample of the mixture used by farmers as fertilizer. Laboratory tests were conducted in accordance with the SCS-USDA (1972) guidelines. Trace element samples were analysed by X-ray fluorescence spectrophotometry (Philips PW 2404).
Results and discussion
The parcel of land studied is dominated by a sandy texture (88.3 % sand), and a decrease in pH was observed in areas in which the mixture (manure + sludge) was added (pH?=?8.0) compared to areas in which fertilizer was not applied (pH?=?8.5). It was observed that the addition of the compound led to an increase in the electrical conductivity of the soil. The trace elements can be organized into two groups based on the results obtained in this study. One group contains the trace elements that were only present in the rows that were treated with the fertilizer. The other group of trace elements was mobilized throughout the whole plot.
Conclusions
The application of sewage sludge on agricultural soils can be very useful as an organic amendment because it produces an increase in soil organic matter. However, sewage sludge must be applied with caution due to the changes in soil chemical properties (for example, pH and E.C.). The use of this type of waste for prolonged periods of time can cause problems of contamination in the soil.
The El Granero reservoir is the last reservoir of the Rio Conchos before it joins the Rio Grande at the Mexico–USA border. This reservoir, together with the San Marcos reservoir, is located in the arid region of Chihuahua, Mexico. High, naturally occurring radioactivity levels, as well as high arsenic (As) concentrations, have been found in both reservoirs. The main goal of this research was to establish the spatial and temporal distribution of trace and radioactive elements in surface sediments and cores collected from these reservoirs.
Materials and methods
Sediment cores were dated using 210Pb and 137Cs measurements and applying the constant rate of supply (CRS) model. Major, trace, and radioactive elements were determined in surface samples and three sediment cores. Radioactive elements were determined by both alpha and gamma spectrometry. Major and trace elements were determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) using the EPA 3051a method. Enrichment factors (EF), contamination factors (CF), and pollution load indexes (PLI) were calculated in order to identify the human impact in both reservoirs, whereas the chemical index weathering (CIW) was used to assess differences in the degree of weathering.
Results and discussion
High uranium (U) enrichment (EFs?=?24.9–54.7) was observed in core layers at the San Marcos reservoir, while in surface sediments, this enrichment was lower. The high variability of lead (Pb) and As in sediment cores from the Granero reservoir was attributed to human influence. Arsenic and Pb enrichment differences between entry and exit sediment cores were explained by the filtering capabilities of the elongated shape, the topography, and the presence of plants on the reservoir’s bed. The highest PLI was found at the entrance core of the Granero reservoir.
Conclusions
The natural element concentration levels of As, Pb, and U were established at the Granero reservoir. High EFs for As and Pb suggest an anthropogenic origin of these pollutants at specific time intervals. High U concentrations in the San Marcos area are explained as naturally occurring. The concentrations of As in most of the studied sediments could pose a risk to human health by As ingestion, since they are above the probable effect level (PEL).
Wood ashes were traditionally used as a fertilizing agent from the very beginning of working land but the fertilizing quality varies according to the combusted biomass and also the industrial burning equipment. The differences between wood ash originated from fluid and classic boiler were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Mehlich 3 and deionized water extraction procedures in relation to extraction time. The results, especially of the SEM and chemical extractions, have demonstrated that the type of burning boiler determines the portions of the leachable nutrient elements. The silica and alumina ash content conducted by the elevated temperature transforms the main proportion of calcium and potassium into the insoluble feldspars. Due to this effect only a small amount of nutrients could be released and served as a fertilizing matter. 相似文献
